'Twas the night before my first marathon...

I met an awesome gal from Canada through a Facebook group called Sub 30 today.  We're going to do the marathon together.  We're meeting another girl in the morning from Alaska who will be tagging along with us too.  I think I'm slightly slower than my new Canadian friend.  We went on a 5K park run this morning at Waikiki Beach with a group of Austrailians that she's here with.  It went well doing 5 minute run/90 second walk, but wow it's hot out there.  She has an ankle injury so the furthest training run she's done is a half marathon in October.  And this other gal from Alaska also had an injury and hasn't run in a while either, so maybe I'll feel pretty rockin' after the halfway point.

Everything is all laid out for tomorrow.  I have breakfast all planned.  Oatmeal, a banana, and Starbucks doesn't open until 5:30 and the marathon starts at 5:00 so I have an iced mocha with no ice sitting in our hotel room's refrigerator so I can add ice in the morning.  It's 7:30pm and I'm getting up at 3am.

I'm so nervous!!  My hip hurts, my foot hurts, and I sliced my heel in the pool my first day here so that hurts too.  It's still oozing.  Gross.  All these pains and I haven't even started the run yet!

I'm glad to have new friends to run with but that also puts more pressure on me.  It always sucks to feel like you're the one slowing your running buddy down.  Although it's also motivating to have someone push you.

I just want to be done!  I feel like it's the same as being 9 months pregnant and I just wanted it to be over with and be on the other side.  I want to be in celebration mode.  I want to wear all the race swag I bought at the expo, and I want to relax on the beach.

Here's a few pics from the expo, and the 5K this morning...

So, wish me luck, love, and positive energy.  I'm hoping to write about finishing this thing for my next post!

See you on the other side...
